McDonald’s bowed to shareholders and announced last week a major environmental initiative: the company is piloting a program to phase out polystyrene cups for hot drinks. They’re doing it because 29.3 percent of their investors indicated they wanted stronger environmental policies for the restaurant chain’s beverage containers.
Coke withdraws from advocacy group that backs gun laws

Coca-Cola Co is dropping its membership in a conservative national advocacy group that supports "Stand Your Ground" laws such as the one being used as a defense in the Florida killing of an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin. The move by the world's biggest soft drink maker comes as corporate America faces increased scrutiny from consumers and shareholder activists over lobbying and political spending.

As shareholders of AT&T T -1.01% , Verizon VZ -0.44% and Sprint S -2.72% prepare to vote for the first time to uphold network neutrality policies on wireless networks, Trillium Asset Management, LLC ("Trillium"), an investment management firm, wrote an open letter to fellow Verizon shareholders today urging a yes vote on network neutrality to protect their investments, the economy, under-represented communities and the interests of all wireless consumers.
PETA Sues Merck for Animal Rights

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals claims in court that Merck & Co. abuse dogs, cats and primates in its labs, and as a Merck stockholder, wants Merck enjoined from soliciting proxy votes for its annual shareholder meeting unless it discloses how it plans to "improve the living conditions of all animals used in-house and at contract laboratories."
Exxon shareholder vote on fracking gets SEC nod
